The humanitarian situation in El Fasher has worsened as a result of the siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), leading to a severe shortage of food supplies and an unprecedented rise in the prices of essential goods.
The Emergency Room of Abu Shouk Camp, along with activists in the city, including Mohiuddin Shawkar, the founder of Takiya El Fasher, have issued urgent appeals for immediate intervention through an air bridge to deliver essential supplies to residents facing the threat of famine.
The Emergency Room revealed that displaced residents in Abu Shouk Camp are enduring an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, forced to hide in underground trenches to escape indiscriminate shelling. Meanwhile, Ambaz (the peanut residue left after oil extraction) has become their main source of sustenance.
One displaced person stated: “We have reached a point where we mix Ambaz with flour to feed the children, while the adults survive on nothing but water.”
Shawkar highlighted that food prices have reached record levels, with the price of a pound of salt soaring to 6,000 Sudanese pounds and three onions costing 10,000 pounds in Zamzam Camp. Many essential goods have completely disappeared from the markets.
Activists have warned that the city is facing a real humanitarian catastrophe, calling on humanitarian organizations and the international community to take immediate action to save the residents before a large-scale famine unfolds.
