The General Coordination of Displacement and Refugee Camps in Sudan has issued an urgent humanitarian appeal, warning of a complete collapse of conditions in the city of El Fasher and the displacement camps in the Darfur region, due to the deterioration of living conditions and the suspension of humanitarian aid amid ongoing intense shelling.
In a statement viewed by Al-Hamesh voice on Sunday, the Coordination said that daily life in El Fasher has come to a complete halt, with markets emptied of food supplies. Residents are suffering from hunger, thirst, and disease in the absence of basic services and any semblance of a safe life.
It confirmed that artillery shelling, aircraft noises, and rocket fire have become a terrifying daily scene for residents, who are also facing a staggering rise in commodity prices. The price of a jerry can of water has reached 1,500 Sudanese pounds, while families are struggling with drought and a complete lack of water for household use.
The statement added that the vast majority of families are unable to flee dangerous areas due to the absence of transportation, noting that many of them include children, elderly people, the sick, and individuals with special needs.
The Coordination called for an immediate and temporary ceasefire in El Fasher and the urgent entry of humanitarian aid, warning that thousands of lives are at risk of slow death in shelters.
It also held the international community, the United Nations and its agencies, the European Union, the African Union, the Troika countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, and all international organizations and parliaments morally and humanly responsible for what it described as an “unprecedented catastrophic situation.”
The Coordination emphasized that previous appeals have gone unanswered and called on the international community to act immediately before El Fasher turns into a new mass grave added to the list of atrocities witnessed in Sudan.
