On the morning of Monday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), backed by elements of the SPLM- N , led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, launched a violent attack on the village of “Um Bir,” located east of Um Barmbita in South Kordofan State.
Sources told Al-Hamish’s voice that the attack resulted in the killing of five civilians, including three women, a child, and a young man, in what was described as a horrific massacre.
Um Bir is located in a strategic area between the military garrisons of “Um Barmbita” and “Khor Al-Dalib.” The garrison there belongs to the 38th Infantry Brigade, which is part of the 10th Division headquartered in Abu Karshola. The area is gaining increased military importance in light of the progress made by government forces as part of the “Liberation of Kordofan” campaign.
The eastern region of the Nuba Mountains is experiencing a severe security escalation, amid growing warnings of an impending humanitarian crisis due to the repeated attacks on civilians, compounded by the complete absence of any urgent humanitarian response.
