Sudan’s northern states have witnessed a serious escalation by the RSF, following coordinated drone attacks that resulted in civilian casualties and a partial collapse of the national power grid.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a drone operated by the RSF targeted the city of Al-Dabba in Northern State, killing six civilians, including two children from the same family.
In a separate attack, local sources told Al-Hamish’s Voice on Wednesday that a strategic drone – believed to be Emirati-made- bombed the “Sidon” fuel depot in the city of Atbara, River Nile State, resulting in the death of several civilian workers and triggering a massive fire at the depot.
The Media Coordination Council for Electricity also confirmed in a statement that the power generation station at Merowe Dam was attacked once again on Tuesday by a drone, marking the second strike in less than three days. The statement noted that the attack directly hit transformers supplying Northern State and several reactors, causing a complete halt in electricity supply.
The council added that a fire broke out in the transformers, severely damaging the power line that supplies Khartoum State. This led to a full blackout affecting Khartoum, River Nile, and Red Sea states.
The statement confirmed that civil defense teams are continuing efforts to extinguish the fire, while technical assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage and to take necessary measures to restore electricity.
The council urged citizens to rely on its official statements regarding developments in the electricity sector and attacks targeting its infrastructure.
