More than 16 civilians were killed and 25 others injured with varying degrees of severity in an artillery shelling carried out by the RSF on Thursday, targeting Abu Shouk displacement camp and the Nyala Market in El Fasher, North Darfur State.
In a statement received by Al-Hamish’s voice on Thursday, the Sudanese Doctors’ Network said that the RSF deliberately shelled the Abu Shouk camp and its crowded market using 120mm and 82mm artillery, resulting in a large number of casualties, including women and children.
The network strongly condemned the massacre, describing it as brutal, and affirmed that it constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. It called for an end to the escalation and the targeting of unarmed civilians.
The network called on the United Nations and international organizations to pressure the leadership of the RSF to halt its attacks on displaced and forcibly displaced people, and to comply with UN Security Council resolutions demanding an end to the assaults and the lifting of the siege on civilians in North Darfur State.
For its part, the Abu Shouk Camp Emergency Room announced that more than 15 civilians were killed and over 25 others injured as a result of the shelling, noting that the artillery strike directly targeted the camp and the Nyala Market.
