Several drivers and escorts were killed, and others wounded, in a drone strike that targeted a United Nations humanitarian convoy on Monday evening in the Al-Kuma area, north of El Fasher, North Darfur. according to a statement released by the Sudanese government today.
The Sudanese government has squarely blamed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the deadly drone attack on a UN humanitarian convoy, stating that the aircraft used in the strike belonged to the rebel group. It described the incident as a “treacherous attack” aimed at obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians trapped in the city of El Fasher and in displacement camps.
The attack resulted in the destruction of several UN trucks and caused fatalities and injuries among security personnel, drivers, and civilians who were at the scene. This marks a new escalation that threatens the safety of humanitarian convoys and undermines international relief efforts.
In its statement, the Ministry of Culture and Information described the incident as a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law,” stressing that such attacks directly hinder the joint efforts of the government and UN agencies to ensure the delivery of aid to those affected by the war.
The government reaffirmed its full commitment to protecting humanitarian convoys and strengthening cooperation with relief agencies, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the “repeated and systematic targeting of aid” in conflict areas.
