Khartoum / Al-Hamish’s voice – 3 September 2025. Humanitarian sources reported that the death toll from the landslides that struck Tarsin village in The Marrah Mountain last Sunday remains unclear, amid conflicting figures on the number of fatalities and missing persons.
The General Coordination of IDP and Refugee Camps had previously stated that the casualties could reach around 1,000 people. However, other sources confirmed that the toll has not yet been finalized, and that field conditions and difficult access to the area have hindered independent verification.
Al-Hamish’s Voice confirms that it has not yet been able to independently verify the actual number of casualties, and that the circulating information remains preliminary estimates pending official confirmation from the relevant authorities or rescue teams.
Eyewitnesses report that the village suffered widespread landslides due to heavy rains, burying a large number of homes under debris, while residents continue attempts to rescue victims using rudimentary means, amid the absence of specialized rescue teams.
Local and international bodies have called for the urgent delivery of aid and humanitarian teams to the affected area, noting that the lack of accurate information reflects the scale of challenges facing relief operations in the Darfur region.
