Doha / Al Hamish’s Voice – September 18, 2025 – Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, stated that the war being waged by the Armed Forces is “existential and decisive,” affirming that the army will not cease fighting “until the siege on Al Fashir, Zalingei, Babnusa, and every inch defiled by the rebellion is lifted.”
Al-Burhan’s statement came during a meeting at the Sudanese Embassy in Doha with a group of Sudanese intellectuals, media professionals, and business figures residing in Qatar, on the sidelines of his participation in the Arab-Islamic Summit.
Al-Burhan affirmed the government’s openness to any efforts aimed at ending the war, provided that Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are preserved. He praised Qatar’s stance toward Khartoum and reiterated the state’s commitment to protecting all those who align themselves with the national front.
The conflict in Sudan erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, quickly escalating into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, according to the United Nations.
More than 30 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, with around 10 million displaced internally and over two million having fled to neighboring countries.
Major cities such as Khartoum, Al Fashir, and El Obeid have witnessed widespread destruction, while the Darfur region is suffering from blockade and severe shortages of food and medicine. UN reports have also accused the RSF of committing large-scale violations that could amount to war crimes.
