Al Fashir/ Al Hamish’s Voice – October 22, 2025
The Coordination Committee of the Resistance Committees in Al Fashir reported that around 239 children have died of starvation in recent weeks due to the siege imposed on the city by the RSF, warning of an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe” threatening the lives of thousands of trapped civilians.
In a statement, the Coordination Committee said that the humanitarian situation in the city has reached a “state of total collapse,” noting that no humanitarian aid has entered Al Fashir for several months and that hospitals are “suffering from a lack of food, medicine, and fuel.”
The statement recounted a heartbreaking story of a mother who lost her daughter while fleeing the city, saying:
“This mother sits before the body of her daughter, Hajar Ishaq, who died of hunger while fleeing Al Fashir… Why are their stories not told, and their suffering not conveyed?”
The Coordination Committee urged the international community to take immediate action to lift the siege on the city and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, stressing that “the world remains silent, as if hunger does not kill and as if cries are not heard.”
This appeal comes as international organizations, including Save the Children, have warned that children in North Darfur are “dying in silence” due to hunger and the lack of aid. The organization said last week that more than 17 children were killed in an attack on Dar Al-Arqam displacement center in Al Fashir, confirming that the city has been under a suffocating siege for more than 500 days.
The United Nations also confirmed that the humanitarian situation in the Darfur region has “reached catastrophic levels,” noting that hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped within conflict zones and that food and medical needs have exceeded the capacity of organizations operating inside Sudan.
Al Fashir, the last state capital in Darfur still under the control of the Sudanese army, has been an epicenter of fighting since mid-2023. The city faces a complete blockade that has cut off food and medical supplies and led to rising death rates from hunger and disease.
