The Popular Resistance in North Darfur has accused the militias controlling the city of Al Fashir of committing “serious violations,” including burning the bodies of civilians on public roads in recent days, an act it described as “a blatant violation of the sanctity of the dead and of all human and religious values.”
The Resistance, in its Statement No. (5), said that the militia had brought in groups from other areas today and settled them in the homes of Al Fashir residents who fled the city or were detained. It added that the newly arrived groups “are being given cash payments and distributed throughout the deserted neighborhoods to impose a new demographic reality.”
The statement described the move as an attempt to alter the demographic composition and to cover up the forced displacement and widespread violations being inflicted on civilians.
The Popular Resistance noted that Al Fashir is experiencing “one of the worst humanitarian phases in its history,” affirming that thousands of civilians are being held inside facilities belonging to the RSF “under harsh conditions lacking the basic necessities of life, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.”
It expressed concern over the continued arbitrary arrests, psychological and physical torture, and the denial of food and medicine to detainees, describing the situation as “a direct threat to the lives of innocent people and a grave assault on human dignity.”
The Popular Resistance reaffirmed its support for the Armed Forces and the Joint Force “to defeat the militias and liberate the land,” and its willingness to cooperate with judicial authorities to prosecute those involved in the crimes. It also urged citizens not to return to Al Fashir at this time, describing the city as “a prison and a mass grave.”
