On Monday morning, the RSF launched a large-scale attack on the city of Babanusa in West Kordofan State, marking a new military escalation less than 24 hours after their commander, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ‘Hemedti,’ announced a three-month humanitarian truce and a cessation of hostilities.
According to local sources who spoke to Al Hamish’s Voice, the attack began in the early hours of dawn with heavy artillery shelling targeting the outskirts of the city, followed by an intense drone strike on residential areas and the surrounding region, causing widespread panic among civilians.
Sources confirmed that the ongoing shelling has forced dozens of families to attempt fleeing the city, amid fears of the attacks spreading and targeting roads leading to the surrounding rural areas
This escalation comes after Hemedti announced, on Sunday evening, a three-month ‘humanitarian’ truce, a move that has been met with widespread skepticism in light of the continued military operations by the militia in Darfur and Kordofan states
Babanusa and its surrounding areas have witnessed escalating tension in recent weeks due to the RSF’ attempts to expand into the western and southern parts of West Kordofan State, while local residents and civil organizations warn of deteriorating humanitarian conditions and shortages of essential supplies.
Al Hamish’s Voice continues to monitor the field situation in the area, amid the absence of any official comment so far from the governmental parties regarding the attack.
