The joint force allied with the Sudanese army released a video documenting the seizure of an armored logistical truck manufactured in the UAE by STREIT Group, a company founded in Canada in 1992 before relocating its largest factories to Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
The footage shows that the vehicle matches the models produced by the company, which specializes in military and armored vehicles.
This development is seen as new evidence of a breach of the UN Security Council’s arms embargo on Darfur, in place since 2004. Canada signed the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in 2019, which allows for holding accountable any Canadian citizen or company involved in facilitating arms deals to countries under embargo, such as Sudan.
The incident adds to a series of field evidence indicating the continued flow of advanced military equipment to the RSF, at a time when the United Nations warns that the influx of weapons prolongs the war and worsens the humanitarian catastrophe.
The UAE, for its part, officially denies any involvement in arming the Rapid Support Forces, while Canada has so far taken no action against the company or its owner, a stance that has drawn growing criticism from rights groups calling for accountability mechanisms to be enforced.
