Khartoum / Al-Hamish’s Voice – September 2, 2025. The General Coordination of Camps for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Sudan announced on Tuesday that the village of Tarsin, located west of the Soni area in the Amoo district of the Marrah Mountains, witnessed a horrific humanitarian disaster on Sunday after massive landslides caused by heavy rains. According to initial reports, nearly 1,000 people lost their lives.
The statement noted that the incident brought back memories of a similar tragedy in the village of Turba in 2018, which left hundreds dead and injured.
Adam Rejal, spokesperson for the Coordination, said: “Such disasters should shake the conscience of the entire world, and the Sudanese people must realize the scale of the tragedy and the need to unite in facing its consequences.” He urged the international community, the United Nations, and international and regional humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to assist the affected populations.
The Coordination extended its condolences to the families of the victims, expressing full solidarity with the people of Tarsin in their severe humanitarian ordeal.
