Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed his country’s firm support for Sudan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity during his meeting with Sudan’s new Foreign Minister, Omar Siddiq.
According to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Sudan, the Foreign Minister expressed China’s commitment to supporting Sudan in achieving peace, stability, and development as soon as possible, highlighting the deep ties between the Chinese and Sudanese peoples.
The meeting took place in Beijing on the occasion of Omar Siddiq’s completion of his duties as Sudan’s ambassador to China and his official appointment as Foreign Minister. Wang Yi congratulated Minister Siddiq on his appointment, praised his previous efforts in strengthening bilateral relations, and affirmed that Sudan and China are strategic partners and close friends.
In his remarks, Wang Yi referred to the fruitful meeting held between President Xi Jinping and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan last September, affirming that the meeting outlined the framework for future cooperation.
He noted that the year 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries, calling for the implementation of the agreements reached by the two leaders and for strengthening coordination and cooperation across various fields. He also reaffirmed China’s continued commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Sudan.
For his part, Minister Omar Siddiq expressed his deep gratitude to China for its continued support to Sudan and its steadfast stance alongside the country in international forums. He affirmed that the relationship between the two nations is deep-rooted and strong, and that Sudan considers China a strategic partner and a trusted friend.
He emphasized that Sudan attaches great importance to its cooperation with China and will continue to support Beijing’s position in safeguarding its core interests and territorial integrity.
Siddiq stated that, as the new Foreign Minister, he will work to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and advance the implementation of major global initiatives supported by Khartoum, while emphasizing the importance of taking measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in Sudan.
The two sides also exchanged views on the developments of the internal situation in Sudan and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between China and African countries in a manner that serves the interests of their peoples.
