The Governor of the Darfur Region and head of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minnawi, accused the RSF of committing what he described as “genocide” in the city of Al Fashir , with direct support from the “Abu Dhabi regime.”
Minnawi, in an interview aired on Sudan TV as part of the “Open Day in Solidarity with Al Fashir ,” said that the attacks on the city constitute “unprecedented crimes in the 21st century,” noting that the targeting is systematic and directed against civilians, including women and children.
He explained that the strikes carried out by the rebel militia targeted residential gathering areas, resulting in the deaths of more than one hundred people over the past few days, including a large number of women and children. He also referred to the “The Mosque Massacre” and the “Dar Al-Arqam Massacre,” in which most of the victims were civilians.
Minnawi praised the resilience of Al Fashir’s residents in the face of the siege and attacks, affirming that “their bravery will be recorded in the pages of history,” and that his forces “are on their way to the city” to support efforts aimed at lifting the siege.
Minnawi also commended the role of the National High Committee for Lifting the Siege of Al Fashir, explaining that it includes representatives from various states and regions, as well as political and civil figures, and plays a pivotal role in supporting efforts to lift the siege through humanitarian and civil means.
Minnawi’s remarks come amid escalating fighting in North Darfur and a worsening humanitarian situation in Al Fashir , where UN agencies are warning of an imminent famine and severe shortages of food and medicine, while the siege imposed by the RSF has continued for several months.
