Port Sudan – September 20, 2025
Darfur regional governor Minni Arko Minnawi said that international humanitarian organizations are aware that relief supplies are reaching the RSF, noting that copies of warehouse keys across the country are in the hands of militia leaders, who distribute the aid as they please.
Minnawi, speaking at the launch of the National Committee to Lift the Siege on El Fasher, added that international silence over what he described as ongoing violations against civilians is deepening the suffering of the population, stressing that the city has been under siege for more than two years. He explained that around 30 relief convoys have been barred from entering Al Fashir, with some looted and set ablaze.
He noted that between January and April of this year, nearly a thousand trucks crossed through the Adré crossing, yet none reached Al Fashir. He stressed that lifting the siege requires intensified efforts and coordination with Sudanese communities abroad and humanitarian organizations to highlight the dire humanitarian situation and document the abuses faced by civilians.
Al Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, has been under a crippling siege for more than two years, amid reports of worsening humanitarian conditions and severe shortages of food and medicine.
According to UN agencies, millions of Sudanese are at risk of famine as a result of the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF since April 2023, a war that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced more than ten million people both inside and outside the country.
